Avalon Open Shoot 25th October 2009
Report by Chris Cox
What a great day the weather was good to us, and based on the feed back, everyone enjoyed themselves. The course was set up saturday, with the usual weary crew at the end of the day.
There was a bit of time pressure to get everyone out on course before ten, we had only one person turn up to early as the clocks had gone back. We knew it would be dark by five so there was to be no dawdling. The Archers were asked to being in the 3D's for us so we could get them secure in the container.
"Sue' s Cafe" was very busy all day, and all seemed to enjoy the new items on the menu, with the Aberdeen Angus Steak Burgers going down very well. Rosemary's cakes were ever popular, selling out of Sue's chili and bread pudding.
From what I could see it all went well and no one was left shooting in the dark!! Though it was no help from me as a got completely lost, taking a walk out group. Thanks Chris L the map forgot to mention how to get to target one and two. To make thinks worse I also had the longest walkout route with a finish as far away form the centre for blowing the horn as you can get. SO the start was a bit chaotic.
The new PA system worked well, which meant everyone got hear my ramblings. Despite our very pointed efforts at the beginning of the day in asking people to check that the score card held the correct details we still had a mix up with t
he scores at the end.
There was one disappointment that I feel I must comment on and that was the number of "No Shows" there was a total of 21 people booked in who just didn't turn up. I am not sure what is most annoying about this, whether its the amount of on the day reorganising that has to be done to the groups which delays the start or whether its the many disappointed people who were turned away because we were at capacity. We had a brief talk about it after and concluding we would do something but at present we are not sure what. It certainly is a strong argument fo
r asking people to pay in advance!!
